This piece made me smile. The spartan still life of one apple, apparently partly consumed, is using painting props until they can't be used anymore. The cut surface of the apple is browning, indicating it's been around, in cut-open condition, for a few hours already. The over-wet purple shadow began to run in two droplets, and the artist apparently caught it in time to lay the piece flat and have the runs become a part of the composition. Judging from the artist's list of other works, he must have bought a whole small basket of apples. And he made The International. Good for him ! Ed C.
