I can tell he's dead. But it's very funny!

I almost tripped laughing at this, and said out loud "ohmygawd!" I had picked up a postcard book of David's (Evil Thoughts) at a store in 2003 or 2004, and my cousin and I laugh hysterically at it. We both have various mental thingies going on (dangerous only to ourselves) - I've actually been hospitalized for suicidal ideation. We are also both repressed artists. So, David's work has been great for us. Sometimes, we leave messages on each other's voicemail that is text from his works. I particularly like his giant canister with "Anti-depressants" written on it. I am going to write that on my painting materials box. I am inspired by his work. Simple, says something, hilarious and seemingly done by one that is insane!

I'm glad to see that Brit comedy is alive and well! Fond memories of Monty Python and the dead parrot sketch :)

The piece "I'm Dead" consists of a taxidermy cat standing on his back legs, holding a small picket sign stating the words "I'm Dead." It is displayed in the largest case of the seven glass cases which puts emphasis on itself. The piece comes off as rather ironic because cats are recognized as having nine lives, however the cat is portrayed as dead. The fact that the cat is a kitten evokes sympathy from the viewer because death should not come so early in life. The frankness of the statement, "I'm Dead," could possibly evoke either of two emotions; one of uneasiness or appreciation of the dark humor.

I LOL'd. Taxidermy animals are people, too!
There is probably some deep symbolism hiding behind this artwork, but it was a refreshing break from some of the more serious pieces.
