Walking around the museum you would never know that less than 48 hours remain before the gala opening. Several artists are still busy creating and installing their work, and some areas of the museum look much like an artist's studio, or even a construction work site...

While the long-awaited opening of Life on Mars, the 2008 Carnegie International is now just days away, it's been the talk of the town for months, with coverage really heating up...
In David Bowie's song, "Life on Mars," he sings about a world spinning out of control. Bowie poses the question of whether Mars is a place to escape to, or whether we're on Mars already, because this world we live in has become so strange and unfamiliar to us.
Although every exhibition has an organizing principle, for the first time in its history, this installment of the Carnegie International has a title -- "Life on Mars." The title —appropriated from the Bowie song...
I may have been thinking too much about Life on Mars, or just not getting enough sleep, or befuddling myself looking at and trying to understand a lot of computer code as part of my job. Whatever, I had something of an insight while trying to articulate what this Carnegie International web site is trying to accomplish, why I care about it, and what it has to do with the exhibition itself...
Anytime you temporarily remove yourself from a situation, you receive a new perspective.
