I have been tumbling the concept of graffiti as an art form (specifically the work of 'Twist' aka Barry McGee) around in my head since our last CI08 teacher group meeting. I have been wondering how to make this medium accessible to students. I always have this "G-rated" classroom conversation mode of thinking when it comes to designing projects/discussions - many of the themes, issues, and concerns of graffiti deal with issues that would not be classroom appropriate. At the same time it also occurs to me that many of these graffiti themes are done 'for the people,' and I think they would be accessible to anyone...or would they? Has anyone else thought about how to address this art form / Barry McGee's work outside of the gallery/museum?
